NOWAT 520 Waterproofing Coating: High Water Resistance Technical Barrier & Low Migration

The NOWAT 520 waterproofing coating is a high-performance functional barrier applied via flexographic printing, specifically engineered to minimize liquid water penetration and drastically reduce the Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR). Its advanced low-migration formulation ensures the dimensional stability of the substrate and guarantees compliance for Food Contact applications (direct and indirect contact). Delivering absolute sensory neutrality, this coating preserves the quality and safety of moisture-sensitive packaging without imparting odors or flavors. It is available in both water-based and UV-curable technologies to suit the specific requirements of the industrial process.

Operational Advantages on Press

  • Superior water and moisture resistance: Drastically decreases paper or cardboard absorption and swelling, achieving a lower Cobb value and ensuring the mechanical integrity of the packaging in critical environments (e.g., cold chains).
  • Advanced WVTR control: Reduces water vapor permeability, a crucial factor in maintaining texture (crispness), weight, and freshness in food products and snacks.
  • Excellent industrial processability: Formulated to withstand high speeds in flexographic units and coaters, offering an optimal Coefficient of Friction (COF) for automated packaging lines, as well as full compatibility with die-cutting, creasing, folding, and heat-sealing post-processes.
  • Low migration and food safety compliance: Meets the strictest European regulations for food contact, providing safe curing/drying and the essential sensory neutrality required in the packaging industry.
  • Enhanced printability and custom finishes: Provides a stable, uniform surface with reduced mottle and excellent ink adhesion, allowing for aesthetic configurations in matte, satin, or gloss finishes.

Logistics and Handling

  • Packaging Formats: Supplied in 200 kg drums and 1000 kg IBC containers, tailored for continuous industrial consumption standards.
  • Storage Conditions: Store in original tightly closed containers at temperatures between 5 °C and 30 °C. Water-based versions must be strictly protected from frost; UV versions must be protected from direct light.
  • Shelf Life: 6 to 12 months from the manufacturing date under optimal storage conditions, depending on the variant (water-based/UV).
  • Safety and Hygiene: Handle using basic personal protective equipment (gloves and goggles). Always consult the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for ventilation protocols and waste management guidelines.
